【第88回】 大学等におけるオンライン教育とデジタル変革に関するサイバーシンポジウム「教育機関DXシンポ」(5/15 オンライン開催)で発表された京都大学の事例「京都大学のGoogleテナントでの生成AI活用に向けた取り組み」は参考になります。
京都大学では、Gemini への入力が学習に利用されないことが明記されたため、2024年10月からGeminiを全教職員(約13,000名)に提供開始、Gemini利用促進のためのコンテンツ作成についても紹介。
Geminiの具体的な使い方の例として、研究報告書の作成、学生向け通知文䛾作成、会議䛾議事録整理、データ整理・分析などを説明。

Kyoto University's Initiatives for the Utilization of Generative AI
 
The case study titled "Kyoto University's Initiatives for the Utilization of Generative AI within its Google Workspace Tenant", presented at the 88th Cyber Symposium on Online Education and Digital Transformation in Higher Education Institutions (Education Institution DX Symposium, held online on May 15), offers valuable insights.
At Kyoto University, it was explicitly stated that inputs to Gemini would not be used for training purposes. Based on this assurance, the university plans to begin providing Gemini to all faculty and staff (approximately 13,000 members) starting in October 2024. The presentation also introduced content developed to promote the use of Gemini.

OpenAIが示した人工知能の発展の5つのレベルについて、LLM(大規模言語モデル)層とアプリケーション層の果たす役割を含めて、Deep Researcchに詳細に説明してもらいました。さらに、レベル3(AI Agent)段階とされている「Genspark」、「Manus」、「OpenAIのOperator」、OpenAIのDeep Research」におけるLLM層とアプリケーション層の役割を説明してもらいました。

『OpenAIは、人工知能が人間の能力を超える「汎用人工知能(AGI)」に到達するまでの道筋を示すものとして人工知能の発展を5つのレベルに分類し、その進捗を追跡するシステムを開発しました。
レベル1:チャットボット(Chatbots)
最初のレベルは、現在広く使われている会話型AI、つまりチャットボットです。これらのAIは基本的な対話や情報提供を行う能力があります。例えば、カスタマーサポートのチャットボットがこれに該当します。
レベル2:推論者(Reasoners)
レベル2は「推論者」と呼ばれ、人間レベルの問題解決能力を持つAIを指します。例えば、博士号を持つ人間と同等の問題解決タスクをツールなしでこなすことができるAIです。
レベル3:エージェント(Agents)
レベル3の「エージェント」は、ユーザーのために数日間行動を起こすことができるシステムです。これにより、特定のタスクを自律的に遂行することが可能となります。
レベル4:イノベーター(Innovators)
次に、レベル4の「イノベーター」は、新しい発明やアイデアを創出する能力を持つAIです。研究開発やクリエイティブなプロジェクトでの応用が期待されます。
レベル5:組織(Organizations)
最も高度なレベル5は「組織」で、これはAIが組織全体の仕事を行うことができる能力を持つことを意味します。企業の運営や管理業務を自動化し、全体的な効率を大幅に向上させることが可能です。』
 
 
 
The Roles of the LLM Layer and the Application Layer in the Development of Artificial Intelligence
 
I asked Deep Research to provide a detailed explanation of the roles played by the LLM (Large Language Model) layer and the application layer in the five levels of AI development as proposed by OpenAI. Level 2 is referred to as "Reasoners," describing AI capable of human-level problem-solving. These AIs can handle problem-solving tasks equivalent to those of a PhD holder without using external tools.
Level 3: Agents
Level 3 systems, known as "Agents," can take actions on behalf of users over the course of several days. These systems are capable of autonomously executing specific tasks.
Level 4: Innovators
At Level 4, "Innovators" are AI systems that possess the ability to create new inventions or ideas. They are expected to be applied in research and development or creative projects.
Level 5: Organizations
The highest level, Level 5, is termed "Organizations." These are AI systems that can perform the functions of entire organizations, automating business operations and management tasks to significantly enhance overall efficiency.

生成AIを用いた文献調査ツールの動向

5月15日にオンライン開催された【第88回】 大学等におけるオンライン教育とデジタル変革に関するサイバーシンポジウム「教育機関DXシンポ」での矢田 竣太郎氏(筑波大学 図書館情報メディア系・准教授)の「生成AIを用いた文献調査ツールの動向」という発表は、生成AIを用いた文献調査ツールについて、ポイントを押さえた説明をされており、参考になりました。
この発表内容は、矢田氏が『カレントアウェアネス』No. 363に発表した「生成AIを用いた文献調査ツール」という記事に基づいており、加えて2ヶ月ほどの最新のアップデートも反映されています。
発表は主に以下の内容で構成されています:

生成AIを用いた文献調査ツールの紹介 様々な生成AIを用いた文献調査ツールが紹介されました。
  • Elicit: 自然な疑問文(リサーチクエスチョン; RQ)を入力すると、関連文献を検索し、「手法」「データサイズ」「結論」などの列を持つ表形式で論文内容を要約して表示します。これは、文献調査において研究者が作成するような表を自動生成するものです.
  • Consensus: RQを入力すると、その疑問文を支持する論文と支持しない論文の数を集計し、その割合を表示します。これにより、学術的な「コンセンサス」の状況を把握できます。また、検索結果の論文内容をまとめたレポートも生成します.
  • Deep Research機能: Google (Gemini), OpenAI (ChatGPT), Perplexity, Anthropicなど、複数の企業が類似機能を実装しています。AIがユーザーのニーズに応じて検索計画を立て、ユーザーの確認を経て文献調査を開始し、数ページ以上のレポートを出力する機能です。OpenAI版では、検索や「思考」の過程も表示され、読んだページを元に次の検索計画を立てる点が特徴です。
  • SciSpace: 論文PDFをアップロードすると、その内容についてチャット形式で質問できます。回答には文献の該当箇所への引用が付加され、PDFビューワと連携して本文選択で要約や説明を表示する機能などがあります。
  • NotebookLM (Google): 文献(PDF)をアップロードしてチャットで質問できる読解支援ツールです。回答には文献の該当箇所への引用が付加され、複数の文献だけでなく、Webページ、録音、ビデオなどマルチモーダルに対応しています。特に、アップロードしたリソースを音声ポッドキャストで要約する機能が特徴的で、日本語にも対応しています。ガイドラインなどの長い文書調査に便利に使われている例も紹介されました。

Trends in Literature Review Tools Using Generative AI
 
At the 88th Cyber Symposium on Online Education and Digital Transformation in Higher Education ("Educational Institutions DX Symposium"), held online on May 15, Associate Professor Shuntaro Yada (Faculty of Library, Information and Media Science, University of Tsukuba) gave a presentation titled "Trends in Literature Review Tools Using Generative AI". His presentation provided a well-organized and informative overview of literature review tools that utilize generative AI, making it a valuable reference.
The content of the presentation was based on Yada’s article “Literature Review Tools Using Generative AI” published in Current Awareness No. 363, with additional updates from the past two months also reflected.
The presentation was mainly structured as follows:

Overview of Literature Review Tools Using Generative AI
Various literature review tools using generative AI were introduced:
  • Elicit: By inputting a natural language research question (RQ), the tool searches for related literature and displays the content in a tabular format summarizing elements such as "Method," "Sample Size," and "Conclusion." It automatically generates tables that researchers typically compile during literature reviews.
  • Consensus: When a research question is entered, this tool aggregates and displays the number and percentage of papers that support or refute the question, helping users understand the current academic consensus. It also generates a report summarizing the content of the relevant papers.
  • Deep Research Functions: Companies such as Google (Gemini), OpenAI (ChatGPT), Perplexity, and Anthropic have implemented similar features. These functions allow AI to formulate a research plan based on user needs, initiate literature searches upon user confirmation, and output multi-page reports. The OpenAI version uniquely visualizes the process of searching and "thinking," updating the search strategy based on pages it has read.
  • SciSpace: This tool allows users to upload a PDF of a research paper and interact with it via chat. Answers include citations pointing to the relevant parts of the document. Integrated with a PDF viewer, it provides summaries or explanations when specific passages are selected.
  • NotebookLM (Google): A reading support tool where users can upload documents (PDFs) and ask questions via chat. The responses include citations to relevant parts of the documents. It supports not only multiple documents but also multimodal sources such as web pages, recordings, and videos. A notable feature is the ability to summarize uploaded resources as audio podcasts, with support for Japanese. One use case highlighted was its effectiveness in reviewing long documents such as guidelines.
