Sakana AI’s “Darwin Gödel Machine”
On May 30, Sakana AI announced an artificial-intelligence system that rewrites its own code to improve itself: the Darwin Gödel Machine (DGM). According to the company, this marks a step toward AI systems that can learn without limit and continually refine their own capabilities.
“Most current AI systems learn only during a training period. After training, the model’s intelligence is fixed and deployed as is. We humans, however, continue learning throughout our lives, and the scientific community as a whole is able to keep improving itself. Could we not build an AI that does the same?”
“Recent research is beginning to show that learning, self-improving AI systems ultimately outperform AI systems hand-designed by humans, and the DGM may likewise soon surpass such manually engineered systems.”

The article, “Formulating Business Strategy by Analyzing Competitors: Using ChatGPT as a Consultant to Cut Costs and Obtain Highly Accurate Analyses,” presented the results of having generative AI conduct a comprehensive, detailed search on information for more than ten competing companies and perform a “direct-competitor” analysis using the PEST, 3C, and SWOT frameworks.
