OpenAI Releases 722 AI-Generated Mathematics Papers
On October 7, 2026, OpenAI made 722 draft mathematics papers generated using an unreleased frontier AI model, along with associated data, publicly available on GitHub. This is being viewed as evidence that artificial intelligence has reached a stage at which it can undertake advanced theorem discovery and proof construction in research on open problems in modern mathematics.
Although the released work includes significant advances on problems such as the quasi-Riemann hypothesis and the Hodge conjecture, the proofs in most of the papers have yet to be fully formalized using proof assistants. This has highlighted serious challenges, including the excessive peer-review burden placed on human experts and the asymmetry between generating results and verifying them.
I asked generative AI to explore this development in depth. Please take a look at the findings.
Please note that the AI-generated research and analysis are based solely on publicly available information, do not necessarily reflect the actual situation, and may contain errors. Please bear these limitations in mind when reviewing the results.
