2024年11月に開催された産業構造審議会知的財産分科会第9回財政点検小委員会で、特許庁は「2024年7月・8月に特定の企業による大量出願があった」と報告、「AI関連のかなり大きな企業からの出願」と説明していました。
2026年1月以降のソフトバンクグループの特許公開件数は7,486件(公開日が2026年1月1日～2026年2月27日、出願日は2024年8月16日迄)となっており、この「特定の企業」がソフトバンクグループであることが明らかとなりました。
ソフトバンクグループは、2023年9月にも約1万件の集中特許出願を行っていたことが明らかになっており、2024年7月・8月の大量出願は、その第2波とも言えます。
そして、特許庁が2026年2月25日に公表した「特許出願等統計速報」の暫定速報値によると、2025年12月単月の特許出願数は82,188件に達し、前年同月比で約169%増（約2.7倍）という空前の急増を記録しましたが、これがソフトバンクグループの特許出願の第3波ではないかという推測がささやかれています。

Massive Patent Filings in July–August 2024 and December 2025
At the 9th Fiscal Review Subcommittee of the Intellectual Property Committee under the Industrial Structure Council held in November 2024, the Japan Patent Office reported that “a specific company filed a large number of patent applications in July and August 2024,” explaining that the filings came from “a fairly major AI-related company.”
Since January 2026, the number of published patent applications by SoftBank Group has reached 7,486 (with publication dates between January 1, 2026 and February 27, 2026, and filing dates up to August 16, 2024), making it clear that the “specific company” was SoftBank Group.
It had already been revealed that SoftBank Group conducted a concentrated filing of approximately 10,000 patent applications in September 2023. The surge in July–August 2024 can therefore be regarded as a second wave.
Furthermore, according to the preliminary figures in the “Patent Application Statistics Report (Flash)” released by the Japan Patent Office on February 25, 2026, the number of patent applications filed in December 2025 alone reached 82,188—an unprecedented surge of approximately 169% year-on-year (about 2.7 times the previous year’s level). There is speculation that this may represent a third wave of patent filings by SoftBank Group.
