大学1年生の数学(線形代数)は生成AIに理解できるのか

1月14日に行われた生成AI関連の発表が満載の「【第84回】大学等におけるオンライン教育とデジタル変革に関するサイバーシンポジウム」を聴講しました。「日本語教育と生成AI」、「Leadership for AI in Education: A view from research」（Dr. Jeremy Roschelle Digital Promise, USA）、「講義動画を対象とした生成AIの活用：藤吉AI先生」、「やってみた・やってはいけないプログラミング教育 with ChatGPT」、「大学1年生の数学(線形代数)は生成AIに理解できるのか」でした。
「大学1年生の数学(線形代数)は生成AIに理解できるのか」というタイトルで、『「理論展開や計算はスマートではない」「単純な計算ミスもする」という弱点も見受けられるが、「理屈を理解し」「自分でミスに気づける」「試行錯誤ができる」という高度な知能と言って良い能力を持つ段階に生成AIは達しており、実感としては、当大学1年生の平均的能力をすでに上回っている。』という大阪大学 降籏教授の具体例の話は、興味深いものでした。

Can Generative AI Understand First-Year University Mathematics (Linear Algebra)?
 
I attended the "84th Cyber Symposium on Online Education and Digital Transformation in Universities and Other Institutions," held online on January 14, which was packed with presentations on generative AI. Topics included "Japanese Language Education and Generative AI," "Leadership for AI in Education: A View from Research" (Dr. Jeremy Roschelle, Digital Promise, USA), "Utilizing Generative AI for Lecture Videos: Professor Fujiyoshi AI," "Do's and Don'ts of Programming Education with ChatGPT," and "Can Generative AI Understand First-Year University Mathematics (Linear Algebra)?"
The presentation titled "Can Generative AI Understand First-Year University Mathematics (Linear Algebra)?" included a fascinating discussion by Professor Furihata, who shared specific examples. He noted that while generative AI has certain weaknesses, such as being "not particularly adept at theoretical development or calculations" and "prone to simple calculation errors," it has reached a level of intelligence that can be described as advanced. This includes the abilities to "understand theoretical concepts," "recognize its own mistakes," and "engage in trial and error." Based on his observations, he stated that generative AI already surpasses the average capabilities of first-year university students at his institution.
