GoogleのGemini 3やAnthropicのOpus 4.5といった競合の台頭によりOpenAIが直面した「コードレッド」の危機に対して、OpenAIは二段階の戦略を準備しているとのことです。一つ目のプロジェクトであるShallotpeatは、過去のGPT-5開発におけるスケーリングの失敗に対応するため、事前学習プロセスやデータセットの構造的な欠陥（「悪い土壌」）を根本的に修正し、次世代モデルの基盤を再構築する長期的な試みです。
二つ目のプロジェクトであるGarlicは、高度なコーディングと推論能力に特化して開発が急がれている、短期的な対抗モデルとして位置づけられています。このGarlicは、知識蒸留技術を活用した高効率モデルであり、社内ベンチマークでは既に競合モデルを凌駕する性能を示していると報じられています。

OpenAI’s New Models “Shallotpeat” and “Garlic”
Facing a “code red” crisis triggered by the rapid rise of competitors such as Google’s Gemini 3 and Anthropic’s Opus 4.5, OpenAI is reportedly preparing a two-tier strategy.
