On June 30, Bird International Patent Office's Director and Patent Attorney, Isao Kobayashi, was a guest on Atsushi Nozaki's e-Patent Channel - Research and Analysis Focused, "Mergers and Acquisitions of Patent Offices," which was live-streamed.
During the broadcast, they discussed:

• The current state of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) of patent offices
• The benefits and challenges of M&A in patent offices
• The future of M&A in patent offices

With 70% of patent offices being solo practices with just one patent attorney, and considering the aging population, it seems that M&A as a means of succession could be utilized more effectively.
