OpenAIやソフトバンクは、AGI（人間の知能を超える人工知能）の進化を以下の5つのレベルで分類しています。
１．人間のような会話能力
２．複数の科目で博士号レベルの知能
３．エージェントとしての機能
４．AI自体による発明
５．AI同士の組織的活動
各レベルについて、具体的な例を挙げながら説明を行っています。例えば、レベル1では、AIが人間と区別がつかないほど自然な会話ができるようになると予測。レベル2では、AIが複数の専門分野で人間の専門家を超える知識と理解力を持つようになると述べました。レベル3のエージェントとしての機能では、AIが人間の代理として様々なタスクを遂行できるようになると予想。レベル4では、AIが独自に新しい発明や発見を行い、科学技術の進歩を加速させる可能性を示唆しました。最後のレベル5では、複数のAIが協調して組織的に活動し、人間社会と並行して独自の「AI社会」を形成する可能性まで言及しました。

2025年11月にリリースされたGemini 3 proは、技術的に見ると、レベル4の「AI自体による発明」段階と判断してよいように思えましたが、まだだったようです。2025年12月4日にリリースされたGemini 3 Deep Thinkは、技術的に見ると、レベル4の「AI自体による発明」段階と判断してよいでしょうか？

Is Gemini 3 Deep Think Already at Level 4 (AI-Driven Autonomous Invention)?
OpenAI and SoftBank classify the evolution of AGI (artificial intelligence surpassing human intelligence) into the following five levels:

Doctorate-level intelligence across multiple disciplines
Functioning as an autonomous agent
AI-driven autonomous invention
Organizational-level collaboration among AIs

They provide explanations for each level with concrete examples. For instance, at Level 1, AI is expected to achieve natural conversation indistinguishable from that of humans. At Level 2, AI is described as gaining knowledge and understanding that surpass human experts across multiple specialized fields. At Level 3, functioning as an agent, AI is anticipated to perform various tasks on behalf of humans. At Level 4, it is suggested that AI may independently generate new inventions and discoveries, accelerating scientific and technological progress. Finally, Level 5 envisions the possibility of multiple AIs coordinating to operate organizationally, forming an independent “AI society” that coexists alongside human society.
From a technical perspective, Gemini 3 Pro, released in November 2025, initially seemed to have reached Level 4 (“AI-driven autonomous invention”), but it now appears that it had not fully achieved this stage.
With the release of Gemini 3 Deep Think on December 4, 2025, is it reasonable to regard this model as having reached Level 4 (“AI-driven autonomous invention”) from a technical standpoint?
