化学分野の特許明細書や学術論文の翻訳は、自然言語処理の観点から、厳密な法的定義と技術的記述が混在する「特許語」の難解さ、非自然言語的な化学構造表現の頻出、数値、単位、引用文献の絶対的な正確性が求められるなど化学分野特有の課題を抱えています。 生成AIの登場により、機械翻訳と生成AIの組合せがこれらの課題の解決に力を発揮してくれそうです。 化学分野の翻訳の現状と展望について、生成AIに調べさせました。 なお、生成AIによる調査・分析結果は、公開された情報からだけの分析であり、必ずしも実情を示したものではないこと、誤った情報も含まれていることについてはご留意されたうえで、ご参照ください。 JAICI ProTranslator EXPRESS-Light https://www.jaici.or.jp/translation/protranslator/ Combining Machine Translation and Generative AI for Chemical Translation The translation of patent specifications and academic papers in the field of chemistry faces several challenges unique to the discipline. From a natural language processing standpoint, “patent language” is notoriously difficult due to its mixture of strictly defined legal terminology and highly technical descriptions. In addition, chemical texts frequently contain non-natural-language expressions such as structural formulas, as well as numerical values, units, and citations that require absolute precision. With the advent of generative AI, combining machine translation with generative models appears promising for addressing these challenges. I asked a generative AI system to investigate the current state and future outlook of translation in the chemical field. Please note that the findings and analyses produced by generative AI are based solely on publicly available information, may not necessarily reflect actual practice, and may include inaccuracies.
