知財実務情報Lab が2025年10月1日に開催したセミナー「生成AI活用による米国特許コスト削減の実務」の録画が公開されました。
現地代理人費用や翻訳費用が高額になりがちな米国特許プロセキューションにおいて、生成AIの活用は、コスト削減と業務効率化を実現する鍵となります。本セミナーでは、竹内茂樹　カリフォルニア州弁護士/パテントエージェント/弁理士が、米国特許出願の実務における生成AIの活用経験に基づいて、効果的に生成AIを活用するための方法を具体例とともに解説しています。
竹内氏は、米国特許出願の高コスト要因である「代理人タイムチャージ」と「オフィスアクション回数」に対し、生成AIを活用した2つの解決策を提案しました。
・従属クレーム自動生成：出願前にAIで追加クレームを作成し、審査を効率化
・応答方針の早期決定：AIで一次コメントを生成し、代理人の手戻りを防止
プロンプトも公開されており、大変参考になりました。
生成AIは、単なる効率化ツールを超え、知財実務の新たなワークフローを構築する鍵になりつつあります

Cost Reduction in U.S. Patents through Generative AI
The recording of the seminar “Practical Approaches to Reducing U.S. Patent Costs through Generative AI”, held by Intellectual Property Practice Information Lab on October 1, 2025, has been released.
In U.S. patent prosecution, where local attorney fees and translation costs often become significant, the use of generative AI is emerging as a key to cost reduction and operational efficiency. In this seminar, Shigeki Takeuchi, California attorney/patent agent/patent attorney, explained—based on his practical experience in U.S. patent filings—specific methods for effectively utilizing generative AI, accompanied by concrete examples.
Mr. Takeuchi proposed two AI-based solutions to address the major cost drivers in U.S. patent applications--attorney time charges and the number of office actions:

Automatic generation of dependent claims: creating additional claims with AI before filing to streamline examination.
Early determination of response strategies: generating preliminary comments with AI to prevent rework by attorneys.

The prompts were made available, proving very useful.
Generative AI is evolving beyond a mere efficiency tool and is becoming a key enabler in building new workflows for intellectual property practice.
