LexisNexis PatentSight+ Summit 2025

2025年5 月28 日行われたLexisNexis PatentSight+ Summit 2025は、内容の濃い素晴らしいサミットでした。
「未来を拓く知財戦略～戦略・人材・AIの新たな可能性～」として、味の素の知財戦略の進化、TDKのグローバル知財ガバナンス、知財ガバナンス境界の未来の知財人材育成について、さらに知財領域のAI活用についての島津製作所、京セラ、旭化成からの報告とパネルディスカッション、LexisNexis Patentsight のMarco Richter氏（Managing Director EMEA & South Asia, Director of IP Analytics and Strategy）の自前で最新技術の開発するサイクルに入った中国の技術力分析、AIを活用したPatentsightの実験、今年もLexisNexis Patentsightの時勢を捉えた企画力の素晴らしさに感心しました。
視聴申し込みが約1,500人あったというこのサミットの内容は、LexisNexis Patentsightから後日詳細が紹介されると期待しています。
 
個人的な感想としては、島津製作所と京セラの生成AI活用の実用化の進捗の先進性です。推論モデルの最新の生成AIを使用しており、しかも、知財部門が独自に契約して使っているということです。（全社の生成AIの使用予算の大半を知財部門が使ってしまったため）
最近は、生成AIを使用し始めた会社が多くなっていますが、与えられた生成AIのレベルが低すぎてあまり良い結果が得られず生成AIの活用にブレーキがかかっている会社が多くなっている中で、最新の生成AIを使いこなしている会社が良い結果を出しています。島津製作所、京セラは、日本企業の中でも知財領域での生成AI活用のトップグループと言えるようです。ぜひ、広く情報発信してもらいたいと思いました。
 
 
 
LexisNexis PatentSight+ Summit 2025
The LexisNexis PatentSight+ Summit 2025, held on 28 May 2025, was an exceptionally rich and rewarding event. Under the theme “Intellectual Property Strategies that Shape the Future—New Possibilities in Strategy, Talent, and AI,” the program explored:
the evolution of Ajinomoto’s IP strategy,
TDK’s approach to global IP governance,
the cultivation of future IP talent at the frontiers of IP governance, and reports and a panel discussion on AI applications in the IP field from Shimadzu, Kyocera, and Asahi Kasei.
It also featured an analysis by Marco Richter, Managing Director EMEA & South Asia and Director of IP Analytics and Strategy at LexisNexis PatentSight, on China’s technological capabilities as the country enters a self-driven cycle of cutting-edge innovation, as well as PatentSight’s own AI experiments. Once again, I was impressed by LexisNexis PatentSight’s outstanding ability to design a program perfectly attuned to the times.
I look forward to the detailed post-event materials that PatentSight is expected to release.
Personal impressions
What stood out most was the advanced, practical progress Shimadzu and Kyocera have made in applying generative AI. Both divisions are using state-of-the-art reasoning models under contracts negotiated independently by their IP departments (which consumed the bulk of their companies’ AI budgets).
While many companies have begun experimenting with generative AI, they often stall because the models provided are too limited to yield useful results. In contrast, companies that master leading-edge models are producing clear value, and Shimadzu and Kyocera appear to be among the front-runners in Japan’s IP arena. I hope they will share their insights more broadly.
