3月15日にAI研究の第一人者である松尾豊・東京大学大学院教授が、AI研究の最新動向やAIが社会に与えるインパクトなどについて、日本記者クラブで話しています。（約1時間27分）

松尾教授は、スマートフォンやSNSなどでは日本はおくれましたが、生成AIについてはおくれをとっていないとしています。G7で去年、国際的なルール作り「広島AIプロセス」を立ち上げ、「包括的政策枠組み」が合意に至るなどの国の対応を評価しています。
生成AIの開発競争を、将棋の評価値にたとえて説明して、日本対アメリカを「16パーセント対84パーセント」と評し、「去年1年間を見ると評価値は上がっている」「最善手を指し続けている」として、「このまま最善手を指し続け、相手がミスをすれば逆転するシナリオもある」としています。
国内で開発が進められている生成AIについて、日本語特化型LLMへ懸念を示しており、の本後だけでなく韓国語、中国語、ベトナム語などマーケットの大きい「アジア」で使われるようにする、医療・金融・製造など巨大産業へ価値提供するなど、どこのマーケットにどういう価値を提供していくのかというビジネスモデルを描き、ビジネスとしての成功を考えていくことが必要だと強調していました。
また、現段階ではツールとしてどう利用していくのかが重要、AGIの段階がいつくるのかはまだわからない、それに備えては核管理のような取り組みが必要になるだろうし、日本はAIを持つ国に入るべきだろう、というコメントもありました。

Latest Trends in AI Research and AI's Impact on Society
 
On March 15, Yutaka Matsuo, Professor of the Graduate School of the University of Tokyo, a leading expert in AI research, speaks at the Japan Press Club about the latest trends in AI research and the impact of AI on society. (approx. 1 hr. 27 min.)

Professor Matsuo said that Japan is behind in smart phones and social networking services, but not in generative AI, and he praised the G7 nations for their efforts in launching the international "Hiroshima AI Process" last year and agreeing on a "Comprehensive Policy Framework.
The report compared the competition in the development of generative AI to the rating of a Japanese chess game and described Japan vs. the U.S. as "16% vs. 84%," noting that "over the last year, the rating has improved" and "the best moves have been made. The report states, "If we continue to play our best moves and the opponent makes a mistake, we can reverse the situation.
He also expressed concern about the Japanese-language-specific LLMs for generative AI that are being developed in Japan, and suggested that they should be used not only in Japanese but also in Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, and other languages in Asia, where the market is large, and that they should provide value to huge industries such as medicine, finance, and manufacturing. He emphasized that it is necessary to draw up a business model to determine what kind of value will be provided to which markets and to consider how to make it a successful business.
He also commented that at the current stage, it is important how to use AI as a tool, that it is not yet clear when the AGI stage will be reached, that initiatives such as nuclear management will be necessary to prepare for it, and that Japan should join the ranks of countries that have AI.
