6月12日にライブ配信された【第89回】大学等におけるオンライン教育とデジタル変革に関するサイバーシンポジウムを視聴しました。6月16日（月）朝9時までタイムシフト視聴が可能です。
特に、「AI時代の情報検索技術」（加藤 誠 国立情報学研究所・准教授／筑波大学・准教授）（約26分）が参考になりました。
概要は次の通りです。『ChatGPTやPerplexity AI、Deep Researchなどの生成AIサービスが広く利用されるようになり、「検索はもはや不要」といった言説が散見される。 しかしながら、これらの技術の内部では依然として情報検索技術が用いられているため、検索自体が不要になったのではなく、人間による検索の比率が低下し、AIによる検索の比率が高まっていると捉えるべきである。 本講演では、生成AIと情報検索技術の共生関係、すなわち、生成AIが検索技術を活用し、また検索技術もAIを利用することで相互に性能を高め合うという関係性について論じる。』

Information Retrieval Technology in the AI Era
I watched the livestream of the 89th Cyber Symposium on Online Education and Digital Transformation in Universities and Other Institutions, which was held on June 12. The time-shifted viewing is available until 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 16.
In particular, the presentation titled “Information Retrieval Technology in the AI Era” by Associate Professor Makoto Kato (National Institute of Informatics / University of Tsukuba), which lasted approximately 26 minutes, was especially insightful.
The summary is as follows:
With the widespread use of generative AI services such as ChatGPT, Perplexity AI, and Deep Research, there are increasing claims that “search is no longer necessary.” However, since information retrieval technology is still utilized internally within these systems, it is not that search itself has become obsolete; rather, the proportion of human-driven search has decreased, while AI-driven search has increased.
This lecture discusses the symbiotic relationship between generative AI and information retrieval technology—namely, how generative AI leverages retrieval techniques, and how retrieval systems, in turn, use AI to enhance their performance, leading to mutual improvement.
